A big part of learning to drive a car safely is developing important safe driving habits. During the time you are learning to drive, you should do the 7 things below. Doing them every time you are about to drive, starting your driving lessons or on your driving test day. By doing so every single time, they will develop into habits. All experienced drivers have developed those habits over time, that keeps them safe when driving a car.
Walk around the car

During the time you are learning how to drive, get in the habit of walking around the car before you get in. This is a great way to see if there are any obstacles in front or behind you. Unfortunately, there has been many car accidents where children were hidden behind cars that backed out of drive ways.
Adjust your seat

Once you have checked that the outside of the care is safe, and you are in the driver’s seat, you must adjust your seat. As a driver, you have to be high enough so that you can see over the steering wheel and close enough so that you can reach the clutch, brake and gas pedals. You also have to be at least 10 inches from the steering wheel, so that in case of a collision the airbag does not hurt you.
Adjust your mirrors

Once the position of your seat is correctly adjusted for safe driving, you now have to check your mirrors. You have to adjust your interior mirror and both exterior mirrors, so that you can see any following traffic and cyclists.
Adjust your headrest

Adjusting your headrest is vital, it can safe lives in case of car collisions. You must make sure to have to headrest squarely behind your head. When you are driving, and seated upright, your head should be within a couple of inches of the headrest.
Adjust your steering wheel

Using the steering wheel is essential for driving a car, so make sure that it is adjusted properly to your height. Not all cars have the ability to adjust steering wheels, however most learner driver’s car (your driving instructor’s car) should be adjustable. Make sure that the steering wheel is slightly tilted.
Seat-belt check

The most important safety equipment on a car is the seat-belt. Check if the seat-belt is in good condition. Lock your seat-belt and pull it up slightly, if the seat-belt is loose or is coming off very easily, do not drive the car.
Lock the doors

When you got in the car, you closed the doors, however you might not have closed them properly so double-check that your door, as well as the other doors are locked securely.
Take these safety steps every time you are about to drive, take your driving lesson or take your driving test, it will turn into habits which can keep you safe while driving.
